Ryan’s Torn Achilles Patient Story

Posted on: June 28th, 2024 by Our Team

Ryan tore his Achilles in September while playing football and came to us in October to begin his rehab after having an Achilles repair surgery. An Achilles repair is no easy rehab but he was up for the challenge and in it for the long haul. He first started weaning off of his crutches to just a boot with a heel lift, and then into a shoe in order not to over stress the Achilles tendon. He gradually worked on regaining his ankle range of motion and strength and gradually progressed to more functional strengthening. A single leg heel raise is often very difficult to do after an Achilles repair but essential to achieve prior to initiate jogging. Once he was able to complete single leg heel raises, he began to jog again. This began the fun phase of rehab where he could start higher level agility and plyometrics. By the end of his time here, he could be found on the turf almost all session long, sprinting, hopping, and jumping. It was a pleasure working with you Ryan! You will be missed!
