Gloria’s Frozen Shoulder Patient Story

Posted on: March 20th, 2023 by Our Team

Hooray! Gloria is from California, MD and came to us shortly after Thanksgiving 2022. She needed help with addressing her adhesive capsulitis, also known as “frozen shoulder.” This started in Summer 2022 and steadily worsened. Gloria was struggling with typical symptoms including constant shoulder pain, stiffness all directions, and sleep disruption. While not related to her shoulder, Gloria was also dealing with other health challenges and stressful personal matters.

When Gloria started physical therapy, she was in the “frozen” stage of adhesive capsulitis and had just received a cortisone injection from her referring doctor. This greatly reduced her pain! Her initial treatment centered around her shoulder stiffness – manual therapy to mobilize her shoulder joint and increase her range of motion, shoulder and upper back mobility exercises, and postural strengthening. She steadily made progress with her shoulder, finding that she was having even less pain and more shoulder flexibility – she entered the “thawing” stage! Her program moved on to shoulder strengthening and functional task training. After 2 months of physical therapy, Gloria regained full function of her shoulder and no longer had pain.

Amazing job, Gloria –  what an achievement! It was a such pleasure working with you!
