Steven’s Hand Trauma Patient Story
Meet Steven!
Steven Tolson sustained a laceration to his left index finger resulting in pain and limited range of motion. Steven is a Karate instructor and business owner at Tolson’s Okinawan Karate; therefore, it was imperative for him to regain the ability to work with his weapons, tolerate forces, and spar with his class to teach them the correct techniques. He also loves to play the guitar for church and was unable to do so because of the pain and lack of flexibility. Steven began Occupational Therapy at another facility, however, due to limited progress he transferred to our clinic on April 17th to be treated by a Certified Hand Therapist.
Throughout his therapy journey, Steven participated in many meaningful activities that simulated weapon use, impact training, and playing the guitar. Targeted exercises were created to improve his dexterity to manipulate the weapons safely as well as improve his motion.
Steven worked hard with our Hand Therapy team and graduated OT on 8/17. He can now complete all his job duties, teaching, and playing the guitar. Great job Steven!
